Three qualify for Centerville City Council posts
Qualifying ended Wednesday for two Centerville City Council posts on the ballot in November.
Two incumbents and one challenger qualified for the non-partisan, at-large balloting, said Krista Bedingfield, city clerk.
Incumbent Post 3 Councilman Micheal Evans is running for his seat for the first time since being appointed as a councilman in July to fill the remainder of a term following the resignation of former Councilman Ed Tucker.
Evans previously ran a close but unsuccessful race for the Post 2 seat. He previously served on the Stone Mountain City Council.
Incumbent Post 4 Councilman Jon Nichols has served one four-year term on council and faces opposition in seeking his second term. Also seeking the Post 4 seat is Edward D. Armijo.
Each candidate paid a qualifying fee of $108 to run, the equivalent of 3 percent of a council member’s annual salary, Bedingfield said.
She said early voting for the two council posts begins Oct. 13 at Centerville City Hall.
