Masked robber swipes cigarettes from east Macon store

A masked man demanding money at a Friendly Gus convenience store had to take matters in his own hands.

About 2 a.m. Friday morning, the man, who had a bag over his left hand as if to conceal a weapon, entered the store at 4845 Ocmulgee East Blvd., according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

When clerks refused to get cash from the register and safe, he loaded Newport cigarettes into a box and ran toward the nearby Subway sandwich shop.

No one was hurt, and no description of the suspect was immediately available.
