Two men arrested for selling stolen firearms in Houston County

WARNER ROBINS -- Two men have been arrested for illegally transporting and selling stolen firearms, a Houston County sheriff’s investigator says.

The arrests stem from a joint investigation by the sheriff’s office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said Houston County sheriff’s Capt. Jon Holland.

Alvin Robinson Jr., 31, of Warner Robins, was charged with five counts of theft by receiving stolen firearms and an unrelated count of misdemeanor battery based on an outstanding warrant, Holland said.

Alexis Montrell Davis, 30, of Macon, was charged with two counts of theft by receiving stolen firearms and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Holland said.

An unrelated investigation led to information that Robinson was allegedly selling stolen guns in Houston County, and a probe into the gun sales was started, Holland said.

In all, 17 firearms, including five that have been confirmed as stolen, were seized in the course of the investigation, he said.

Robinson and Davis were arrested about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in a coordinated traffic stop after they were spotted in a white Jeep Liberty near Watson Boulevard and Carl Vinson Boulevard, Holland said.

Davis, who was driving, pulled over, and he and Robinson were taken into custody without incident by the sheriff’s Interstate Criminal Enforcement team and deputies assigned to the sheriff’s warrant division, Holland said.

The additional law enforcement personnel were on hand because Robinson and Jones could have been armed based on the investigation that they were selling firearms, Holland said.

“Knowing that ahead of time, we took precautions to conduct a safe traffic stop on them,” Holland said.

Robinson and Davis were being held Thursday at the Houston County jail.

The investigation is on-going and anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Houston County sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Lange at (478) 542-2085.
