Man shot in Fort Valley armed robbery

A 54-year-old man was shot during an armed robbery at the Sky Beverage Store in Fort Valley just before noon Thursday.

The Fort Valley Police Department was dispatched to the store at 503 Martin Luther King Drive about 11:30 a.m., according to a news release. Officers found Dennis Patel with a bullet wound in his upper torso, and he was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health in Macon.

It was not disclosed what, if anything, was stolen.

“We have suspects in this incident and our detectives are following up leads and witness information now,” Fort Valley Police Chief Lawrence Spurgeon said in the release.

Detectives processed the crime scene while police searched the area for the suspect with no success. The Peach County Sheriff’s Department and Warner Robins Police Department are aiding in the investigation.
