A Macon man died Wednesday afternoon after his release from the Houston County Detention Center, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Thursday.

Shaqwan Warren, 33, was held on “traffic charges related to an arrest by the Centerville Police Department and a Failure to Appear warrant out of Bibb County” until his release on Tuesday.

Warren was experiencing medical issues at the time of his release. After being taken to a local hospital, he became unresponsive, the news release said.

Medical staff stabilized him. He was then taken to another hospital on Wednesday, where he was pronounced dead at around 2:45 p.m.

The county sheriff’s office requested the GBI investigate his death.

The investigation is active. The completed investigation will be taken to the Houston County District Attorney’s Office for review, according to the news release.

The Telegraph reached out to Major Brian Blanton for more details but did not receive a response prior to publication.
