Warner Robins school lockdown lifted after Monday threat. What we know
A lockdown following a threat made against a high school in Warner Robins has been lifted as of 11:20 a.m., Houston County School District officials said.
Northside High School was on a code yellow lockdown Monday while officers responded to the scene to investigate a threat made against the school, according to district spokesperson Jennifer Jones. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office said no active threat was identified, but an investigation is underway to determine who initiated it.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call at 8:39 a.m. from the Centerville Police Department, which advised it received a call relaying a possible threat to the school.
“Deputies with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Warner Robins Police Department, responded immediately to the school. Upon arrival, law enforcement personnel worked in coordination with school administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure the safety of all students and to conduct a thorough investigation,” the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities said no active threat was identified to the school or its occupants following the investigation.
Northside High Principal Dustin Dykes updated families about the campus’ return to normal operations through a callout message.
“The code yellow was called as a safety precaution due to a threat made to the school. Even though no one on campus was ever in danger, we wanted to keep you informed,” Dykes said. “As always, our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff.”
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office said it takes all threats seriously, as safety and security remains a high priority. Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
The Houston County School District sent the following initial message to families:
“Parents, we are currently on a code yellow at Northside High School due to a threat made to the school. Let me assure you that all students are safe and in their classrooms. We will keep you updated as more details become available,” the message said according to Jones.
The district followed up with an update, informing parents that law enforcement was performing a thorough search of the campus to ensure safety.
A code yellow is announced when an incident occurs close to a school, but does not present an immediate danger to students or staff, according to the district’s website. A code yellow may also be called if there is a potential threat on campus which is not serious enough to warrant a code red lockdown.
