Man arrested after standoff in Warner Robins, police say area is safe.
An armed man was arrested after he barricaded himself inside a Warner Robins home and allegedly assaulted family Tuesday, according to the Warner Robins Police Department.
Officers urged the public around 6:30 a.m. to avoid the 300 block of Athens Street while the police department’s SWAT team attempted to negotiate with the man, according to a news release.
The scene was safe and no longer active by 10 a.m., Lt. Patrick Allen told The Telegraph. The suspect, Marquis Williams, was taken into custody without incident and nobody was injured.
Four family members, ages 5, 37, 48 and 53 years old, were listed as victims in a news release from the police department.
They “were able to get away from Marquis” and called 911 around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers said.
Police were called regarding family violence, alleged aggravated assault and battery at a home in the area, Allen said.
Officers met with relatives impacted by the incident, while Williams “barricaded himself inside the residence and (was) by himself,” WRPD said.
The police department’s SWAT team and Crisis Negotiation Team were at the scene “negotiating with the offender” around 6:30 a.m. Officers requested Georgia Crisis Line to also come to the scene.
Williams eventually exited the residence and was arrested at the scene.
He was charged with aggravated assault and third degree cruelty to children, according to the police department. It was unclear if he was given bond.
Police advised the Houston County Board of Education to reroute school buses away from the area.
Officers initially said Williams was 33 years old, then said he was 34 years old. His correct age was unclear Tuesday afternoon.
