‘Celebration of cultural diversity.’ International Warner Robins event coming soon
Get ready, Warner Robins: The International City Experience is finally here.
The inaugural Warner Robins event was postponed in May because of weather concerns. The event is now scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 7 at Perkins Field at 105 Mulberry St., the city announced Tuesday.
There is no admission charge for the family-friendly event.
The event is billed as “a celebration of cultural diversity that promises to be an unforgettable journey around the world in a single day.”
More than two dozen countries are expected to be represented at the event.
“Attendees can immerse themselves in a wide array of cultural exhibits and activities that showcase the traditions, artistry, and customs from different corners of the globe,” the release said.
In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, the event will feature a traditional Mexican altar known as an Ofrenda, according to the release. The altar is presented by Community Culture and Arts Corp.
Performances, food vendors, more at Warner Robins event
More than a dozen performances are lined up, including:
- Chien Hong School of Kung Fu — Performers from this Atlanta school of traditional martial arts for adults and children are expected to present the Lion Dance.
- Latin fusion by Ritmo Soul Bunch — Attendees are invited to dance to the beats of this band that bills itself as “Middle Georgia’s only Latin fusion band.”
- Perry Belly Dancing — An expected “mesmerizing performance” of Egyptian belly dancing that blends tradition with artistry.
More than two dozen food vendors are expected, including:
- Cuban Island Cafe — Authentic Cuban dishes
- ,J & A Food on the Go — A variety of international delights.
- The Mad Mexican — Bold and spicy Mexican cuisine.
More than 45 merchandise sellers and other vendors are expected to set up, including:
- JP3D — Intricate 3D-printed flexible dragons and other creatures, each housed in a matching egg, are offered by this vendor.
- Permanent Jewelry by Shayla — This vendor offers custom-made jewelry.
- Keca by Carmel — Handcrafted rag dolls and flower felt bands inspired by early American history can be purchased from this vendor.
The event includes activities designed for kids and the young at heart, including:
- Global Beats Playground —This interactive area for kids features percussion instruments from around the world including drums, shakers and didgeridoo, a wind instrument,
- Character Meet & Greet — Kids can meet their favorite storybook characters with Fairytales & Friends.
- Passport Making Station — Collect stamps by “traveling” to different cultural exhibits throughout the event to create a passport.
