Son arrested after he shot and killed father in Houston County home, investigators say

A 21-year-old man shot and killed his father Wednesday night during a “domestic dispute” at a home in Houston County, according to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened around 8:20 p.m. in the 100 block of Wimberly Road in Hayneville, according to Coroner James Williams.

The victim, Adalberto Ortiz-Nieves, was 52 years old, the sheriff’s office said. Alexzander Capella-Ortiz was arrested and taken to the Houston County Sheriff’s Detention Center, where he was being housed Thursday.

Ortiz-Nieves was rushed by ambulance to Houston Healthcare in Perry, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, the coroner said.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the shooting Thursday.
