Touchdown! Popular Atlanta-based wing joint to open stores in Macon and Warner Robins

A popular wing restaurant chain that started in the Atlanta area is opening two restaurants in Warner Robins with plans to open a third in Macon.

Touchdown Wings is best known for their wings with 30 sauce offerings as well as their Philly cheesesteaks, hamburgers, fried fish and fried rice.

Their first Touchdown Wings in Middle Georgia is expected to open mid-July at 2907 Watson Blvd., Suite C-2, next to the new Crumbl Cookies that just opened.

The next Touchdown Wings is expected to open in November at 117 Russell Parkway, Suite 290, in Warner Robins, while the owners are currently in lease negotiations for the Macon location, said Touchdown founder Jay Yang.

Wings & the Super Bowl

What would become the Touchdown Wings restaurant franchise was birthed from his Chinese restaurant, Hong Kong City, which was in business from 2013 to 2017 in downtown Atlanta.

“At that restaurant we sell a lot of wings, too, and on Super Bowl day it was crazy, and I talked to my partner and I said, ‘Why don’t we open a wing restaurant — just focus on the wings?’ And he said, ‘Let’s try,’” Yang said.

Yang and his partner and brother Jeremy Lin chose the name Touchdown Wings because they wanted the name to relate to football since the restaurant idea came from the demand for wings on Super Bowl Sunday.

To Yang’s surprise, no one had a trademark for Touchdown Wings and he was able to secure it.

In addition to their 21 current locations, Touchdown Wings has at least eight more in the works — including the two opening in Warner Robins and the one planned for Macon.

Yang said focusing on wings and adding a few good food choices rather than a owning and operating a full-fledged Chinese restaurant was a better fit.

And people still cannot get enough of their wings.
