More Huey Magoo’s coming to Middle GA: 1 of 3 now under construction in Warner Robins
Three Huey Magoo’s are planned for Houston County, with the first one now under construction in Warner Robins.
Danny and Trinette Rosales, who own multiple Jersey Mike’s locations, have purchased the franchise rights for Huey Magoo’s in Houston County.
Their first Huey Magoo’s at 711 Lake Joy Road is going up next to a new Arby’s, also to be built. The Huey Magoo’s is targeted to open by the end of August or the first of September, Danny Rosales said.
Huey Magoo’s restaurants are known for their chicken tenders.
When up in Loganville visiting one of their Jersey Mike’s locations, Rosales said he decided to give the Huey Magoo’s there a try.
“I fell in love with it the first time I ate it,” Rosales said.
He ate at the restaurant a second time, and then the third time, he brought some of his business buddies up with him to try the chicken.
“They tried it and they were like, ‘Hey, you gotta open up one of these,’ and I said, ‘OK,’ and so that’s how it started,” Rosales said.
He and his wife made a phone call and that went so well that they bought the rights to three sites in Houston County and two in Florida in the Palm Coast area.
‘The filet mignon of chicken tenders’
“The food is great,” Rosales said. “We don’t do wings — all we do is tenders — grilled and fried tenders..
“We consider it the filet mignon of chicken tenders. It’s the top 3%. It’s an actual tenderloin. It’s not a chicken breast cut up,” he said.
Additionally, Huey Magoo’s is “a great company and they’re definitely growing. The stores have a modern look.”
Their first Huey Magoo’s on Lake Joy will be about 2,500 square feet with a covered patio and drive-thru.
A second location will go up along Perry Parkway next to the McDonald’s in front of the Publix in Perry. That property has already been purchased, Rosales said.
They hope to open the Perry location at the first of next year. A site for their third planned Huey Magoo’s has not yet been selected.
Jersey Mike’s
As for their Jersey Mike’s locations, they own the rights to Houston and Bibb counties and are considering adding another store in Macon along Zebulon Road.
They’re also planning to build one in Forsyth and are considering but haven’t decided on building a store in Byron.
Their Perry location next to a Dunkin’ is expected to open in two to three months, Rosales said.
With their Jersey Mike’s locations now managed by their daughter, Alexis Rosales, they’ll have time to devote to getting their Huey Magoo’s restaurants off the ground.
Huey Magoo’s
“At first, we’re going to be very hands-on and we’re hoping to find someone to run them,” Danny Rosales said. “But in the beginning, we’re definitely going to be hands-on.”
The closest Huey Magoo’s is in Milledgeville at 972 N. Columbia St.
The chain of restaurants offers fried and grilled chicken tender meals, sandwiches, salads, wraps and dipping sauces.
According to the company website, “each tender is always made fresh, all natural, with no antibiotics ever, no hormones, no steroids and no preservatives.”
