Victim identified in head-on crash in Crawford County
A 32-year-old man was killed in a head-on crash between a car and a tractor-trailer early Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Justin Taunton of Upson County, Crawford County Coroner Sheldon Mattox said in an email.
The 6:22 a.m. crash Tuesday blocked all lanes at Ga. 22 and Billy White Road for more than three hours, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. Ga. 22 is also known as U.S. 80.
Taunton was driving a 2001 BMW 318 west on Ga. 22/U.S. 80 when he failed to maintain his lane, crossing the double-yellow line and crashing head-on into an east-bound 2003 International 9100 Series Commercial Truck, according to an email from the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
Taunton, who lived in Thomaston, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Crawford County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, for treatment.
