A man has been charged with murder and aggravated assault in the shooting last year of another man outside a Warner Robins apartment complex.

Amard Lanay Watts, 27, is accused of shooting 23-year-old Rashaan Brack outside Robin’s Landing Apartments at 320 Carl Vinson Parkway early Saturday, May 6, 2017.

Brack was found with at least one gunshot wound while lying in the parking lot by officers responding to a call of shots fired at 4:35 a.m., according to a Warner Robins police news release. He was taken to Houston Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

A native of Terrell County, Brack is remembered for “his infectious smile,” his obituary said.

The slaying remains under investigation.

Watts was already jailed in the Houston County Detention Center when the murder charge was placed against him Wednesday, Jennifer Parson, public information officer for Warner Robins police, said in an email.

The other charges of theft by receiving stolen property, possession with intent to distribute Schedule I-II drugs, identity fraud, giving false name/info to a police officer and misdemeanor obstruction of a police officer apparently all stem from a June 22 incident this year, according to jail records.

Parson declined to release any additional information related to the killing or the other incident.

Watts was also being held on a Houston County Superior Court probation violation as well as an outstanding warrant out of Fitzgerald, where he previously lived. A Houston County Sheriff’s Office arrest and booking report listed Watts as homeless.

In October 2013, Watts pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime and obstruction of an officer, according to Houston County Superior Court records. He was sentenced to 90 to 120 days in a detention center. A theft by taking charge was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

Watts, who received first-offender status that allows his felony record to be wiped away upon successful completion of probation, revoked his probation four times and was sentenced to additional time in the county jail for each revocation, records show.

Additionally, Watts pleaded guilty in June 2014 to simple battery and giving false name/information to a police officer, both misdemeanors, records show. He was sentenced to six months in jail.

Anyone with information about the killing should contact Detective Jeff Herb at 478-302-5380, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
