A man died from smoke inhalation early Monday morning after a house fire in east Macon, Bibb County coroner Leon Jones said.

Robert Williams, 82, was at his home on the 2800 block of Wilkes Court near Shurling Drive and Bowden Golf course Sunday night when a fire broke out, Jones said.

Williams was taken to a hospital in Augusta for treatment after he was taken out of the home, but died from smoke inhalation at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, according to Jones.

No additional information was available Monday morning.
