Boy, 11, dies after being hit by car on Tucker Road in Macon

UPDATE: The boy was identified as Shamaar Palmer, 11, according to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. He was a student at Sonny Carter Elementary School and originally from Maryland, Bibb coroner Leon Jones said.

A child died Monday morning when he tried to cross the street and was hit by a car in north Macon, officials said.

The boy, 11, was hit at about 7:20 a.m. Monday by a Ford Explorer traveling south on Tucker Road near Weatherby Drive and Interstate 475 in northwest Macon, according to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, medical staff told the sheriff’s office.

The next of kin was notified, but his name will not be released immediately, the statement said.

No others were injured in the collision.

It was unclear in the statement whether the child lived in middle Georgia. The crash is still under investigation.
