Program promotes civic engagement among teens
There will be a regional event in Macon for a statewide program seeking to promote civic engagement among high school students.
The Secretary of State's Student Ambassador Program is hosting a kickoff event on Thursday at Mercer University. The program aims to get young people involved in areas such as volunteering and voter registration.
Thursday’s ceremony offers participants a chance to train for the various activities and competitions planned for the program.
“The Student Ambassador Program has been a tremendous success because of hardworking students, faculty members and community leaders who have dedicated their time and efforts into improving their neighborhoods and encouraging civic participation through voter registration,” Secretary of State Brian Kemp said in a statement.
“I am very excited about this opportunity for students across Georgia to become more involved in voting and elections this year and for many years to come.”
Thursday’s event will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University Center’s President’s Dining Room, 1400 Coleman Ave.
If a Georgia high school wants to participate in the Student Ambassador Program, contact the Secretary of State’s Outreach Coordinator, Alex Collins, at 404-654-6045 or email ambassadorsupport@sos.ga.gov.
