Teen arrested in connection with carjacking; another man escapes
Shortly after two men allegedly carjacked a vehicle Thursday afternoon, Bibb County Sheriff deputies caught and arrested one of the men as they tried to run away.
About 4:30 p.m. Thursday deputies responded to a carjacking in the area where Petunia Avenue and Daffodil Street merge in the Unionville Gym area, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. Gary Mullen of Rex, told deputies he was approached by two black males, one with a handgun. The man with the gun demanded his wallet, cell phone and his vehicle, a 2005 Honda CRV, the release said. Mullen was not injured during the incident.
The Honda was spotted near Pansy Avenue by deputies just a few moments later. When deputies made a traffic stop on the car, two black men ran from the vehicle, the release said. One of the men, 18-year-old Caleb Kendall, was caught but the other man was able to escape.
Kendell was taken to the Bibb Law Enforcement Center where he was booked for armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, the release said.
This incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information about it is asked to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500, or call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
