Vote likely Monday on Zebulon Road apartment complex for seniors
An apartment complex for seniors planned for 6601 Zebulon Road could be up for a vote Monday at the Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.
The 90-unit complex would sit on a 10-acre tract west of Interstate 475 between Tabernacle Baptist Church and Powers Plantation. Kentucky-based developer Oracle Design Group Inc.’s request for a conditional use permit was deferred by the board in a May meeting due to concerns about the layout raised by some commission members.
The developer “made some revisions based on comments that the commission made at the last hearing,” said Jim Thomas, the commission’s executive director. “I think they’re fine to meet the request of the commission.”
Wider buffers, a rain garden to help with erosion and a rearranging of some structures were among recent changes made by the developer, according to a staff report.
The property, owned by Hephzibah Children’s Home, is surrounded by residential and commercial structures, a church, a shopping center and undeveloped land, according to the staff report. The complex will include 10 one-story apartment buildings, each containing nine units.
Should the board approve the conditional use permit on Monday, Thomas said the developer would have a year to get other requisite approvals before a building permit is issued.
In other business Monday, the board will address a request to allow a food truck to operate at the Tobesofkee Lake Store at the intersection of Pineworth and Moseley Dixon roads.
In a letter to the board, store owner Bhaveshkumar Patel said he hopes to hire three new employees to operate the food truck each day of the week. The matter had been deferred.
“We don’t have any regulations regarding food trucks in the zoning code,” Thomas said. “We’ve developed a draft ordinance, but we’re still trying to decide how to handle these things.”
The board’s pre-meeting is set for noon Monday in the 10th floor conference center room at the Willie C. Hill Government Center Annex, 682 Cherry St. The regular meeting will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the same room.
