Suspect who crashed through day care fence captured

A man wanted by the U.S. Marshals office, who crashed a vehicle through Macon day care fence Thursday, was captured and arrested Friday afternoon.

Christopher Derek Simpson, 32, was caught about 4:30 p.m. in Monroe County by the U.S. Marshals Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force and investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

When law enforcement officers tried to stop Simpson, he rammed his vehicle into one of the marshal’s vehicles, the release said.

On Thursday, when the marshals tried to serve a warrant on Simpson, he fled in a Budget rental truck with a passenger, Bibb County Sheriff’s Lt. Randy Gonzalez said. He ended up crashing into a fence at the Discovery World Learning Center day care in the 5400 block of Forsyth Road. No one was injured.

Simpson ran from the vehicle and had been sought by law enforcement. The passenger, who also tried to flee, was questioned and released.

On Friday, Simpson was taken into custody and taken to a local hospital to be checked for minor injuries, the release said.

He was charged with theft by deception and violation of probation and taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
