SWAT team called to home of barricaded man in south Bibb
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT team was called to a south Macon home Tuesday afternoon after a man, who was emotionally distraught by the Tuesday morning suicide of his uncle, threatened to harm himself with a knife.
Family members of 23-year-old Eric Moody Jr. called 911 just before 1:45 p.m. after he barricaded himself inside a house at 732 Grenada Terrace, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. Earlier Tuesday, Moody’s uncle fatally shot himself at the same house, officials said.
The SWAT team tried to coax Moody outside safely, but after a couple of hours the team resorted to deploying a mace-like gas to force him out, Lt. Randy Gonzalez said.
Moody surrendered, and no one was harmed. He was taken to a hospital to be checked out.
No charges have been filed in the case, the release said. Anyone with information about this incident can call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
