Monroe County deputy injured in accident
A Monroe County sheriff’s deputy was injured early Sunday after being struck by a car while he was assisting a motorist.
According to a posting on the sheriff’s office Facebook page, the accident happened at about 2:30 a.m. on Interstate 75 north near the Interstate 475 split.
Cpl. Tim Campfield was pushing a vehicle out of the roadway when he was struck by a drunk driver, the post stated. The vehicle landed on top of Campfield’s patrol car.
Campfield was taken to a hospital where he was treated and later released. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating, but no further information was available.
