Man arrested in shooting at Macon hotel
A 36-year-old man from Virginia was arrested Wednesday after authorities say he shot at a pickup truck at the Magnuson Hotel in Macon.
Travis Bishop was charged with discharging a firearm on or near a public highway or street, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The 10:20 a.m. call originally went out as a possible kidnapping, though that turned out not to be the case.
Bishop told deputies that a woman who was talking to the pickup’s driver had taken some money from Bishop. She was trying to leave with the truck’s driver, and Bishop tried to stop her, the release said.
The driver, a 72-year-old man from Gray, said Bishop threatened him, so he drove away. As he pulled away, Bishop fired a shot at the truck, striking the rear tire on the passenger side, according to the release.
The driver did not have anything to do with the money incident between the woman and Bishop.
Bishop, who was being held at the Bibb County jail, was released Wednesday evening on a $650 bond.
Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
