Bibb sheriff’s SWAT team runs Special Olympic torch

The newest members of the Macon-Bibb County SWAT team were part of a running joke early Tuesday as they prepared to carry the torch for Special Olympics.

SWAT Commander Lt. David Freeland made sure the newbies were front and center when the cameras were rolling, and the other deputies did their best to make them laugh during interviews.

“I’m not looking forward to a five-mile run after a 12-hour work day, but it’s for the Special Olympics and it’s for a good cause, so I’m excited about it,” Joshua Cravey said with a straight face while holding the SWAT flag.

Michael Wilson, a Bibb sheriff’s investigator on the homicide beat, was prodded outside the view of the lens as he spoke.

“I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s going to be a good thing. Good to get out here with the team,” Wilson said while his buddies tried to distract him.

The run doubles as a fitness exercise as the men jog from Ga. 247 up Broadway and turn on Poplar Street where the run ends at the Macon-Bibb County Government Center.
