Political Notebook: Warner Robins supports apartment complex plan
The Warner Robins City Council on Monday voiced support for a plan to build mixed-income apartments off North Davis Drive.
The council approved a resolution in support of the 66-unit complex proposed for the site of the former Oscar Thomie Homes public housing complex. The complex was torn down last year.
The developer, The Boulevard Group, is applying for tax credits for creating housing for low income working people at reduced rental rates.
Houston hires new assistant district attorney
Ryan English is the newest assistant district attorney in Houston County.
He was officially hired Tuesday upon the approval of the county commission. He is taking the position to be vacated by Mark Anthony on May 30.
English is a 2012 graduate of the Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law, and he has an undergraduate degree from Georgia Southern University. He has worked as a private attorney and as a public defender in Houston County.
His annual salary will be $57,220.
Special breakfast recognizes public works employees
An appreciation breakfast is being held Saturday to recognize Macon-Bibb County employees who work in the Public Works, Solid Waste and Parks & Beautification departments, according to a news release.
The breakfast, which will take place at the Buck Melton Community Center at 9 a.m., is sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, the NAACP, Macon Water Authority board member Dwight Jones and other officials. The breakfast ties into National Public Works Week, which included a proclamation from the county citing the contributions public works employees “make every day to our health, safety, comfort and quality of life,” the release said.
