Valuable equipment reported missing from Georgia Academy for the Blind

More than $50,000 worth of equipment belonging to the Georgia Academy for the Blind was reported missing from the school Tuesday, according to an incident report from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

A talking GPS trekker, an index embosser, a braille display focus, video magnifiers and two portable note takers were among the dozen items reported lost or stolen. Each item was valued at no less than $1,000, according to the report.

About 1 p.m. Tuesday, Bibb County sheriff’s deputies met with Larry Harris, who oversees property and supplies for the school, according to the school’s website. Harris told The Telegraph on Thursday that he was not authorized to comment on the matter.

In an emailed statement to The Telegraph, school Superintendent Cindy Gibson said she was unable to discuss details of the incident report because of pending litigation.
