Macon among safest U.S. cities to drive in, according to ValuePenguin

Is Macon a safe city to drive in? The folks at ValuePenguin, a personal finance company seem to think so.

ValuePenguin analyzed data from 166 cities in the U.S. and ranked Macon as the 30th safest city to drive in. In Georgia, only Athens (No. 20) and Columbus (No. 25) rank higher than Macon. Factors considered in the rankings included quality of roads, impaired driving, passenger safety, ease of commute and costs of driving.

According to ValuePenguin, the average commute in Macon is 20.4 minutes, which is 3 percent lower than the national average. In addition, the average price of gas is $2.02, which is 5 percent lower than the national average. Macon ranked highest in road quality, at No. 5.

Rochester, Minn., was named the safest city to drive in.
