Jimmy Carter, Gregg Allman at Mercer graduation in Macon
President Jimmy Carter is scheduled to address Mercer University graduates Saturday, and singer and musician Gregg Allman is getting an honorary degree.
Carter, the 39th president of the United States and a Mercer trustee, will deliver the commencement address to the 602 graduates of the College of Liberal Arts, Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics, School of Engineering, Tift College of Education, Penfield College and the Townsend School of Music.
Allman, a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band and a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, will receive an honorary degree and is expected to perform during the ceremony.
Allman lived in Macon while the band produced hits across the nation, many of them recorded at Capricorn Records.
The commencement ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins Arena in the University Center, 1501 Mercer University Drive.
