A 25-year-old Macon man was arrested and charged with murder Wednesday in connection with the 2015 slaying of 19-year-old Travaris Veal, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Veal was fatally shot March 26, 2015 at Macon Garden Apartments on Mercer University Drive.

Karlos Middlebrooks Cornelius was taken into custody without incident about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday in south Macon, the release said.

On the night of the killing, Veal and 23-year-old Terry Brown were sitting on the front porch of one of the apartment buildings when a white Ford sport utility vehicle pulled into the parking lot, the release said. Three to four people inside the car opened fire on the two men and fled the scene, officials said. Veal was struck in his left shoulder and pronounced dead at a local hospital. Brown was shot in both legs but survived.

Cornelius is the second person arrested in connection with the slaying.

A month after the shooting, 28-year-old Steven Quintrell Howard was charged with participation in criminal street gang activity, giving false statements and violation of probation in connection with the killing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME.
