Funeral arrangements set for Macon’s Lonzy Edwards
Former Bibb County commissioner and mayoral candidate Lonzy Edwards will be laid to rest Monday.
According to arrangements announced by Edwards’ law office, a public viewing will be held 4-5:45 p.m. on Sunday at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. The church is located at 2789 Millerfield Road in Macon.
A graveside service will be held noon Monday at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church cemetery in Sparta.
Edwards, 67, died Friday just 10 days after suspending his mayoral campaign due to undisclosed health problems. In addition to a stint as county commissioner from 2007 to 2013, Edwards served as pastor at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial contributions be made to the East Macon Community Development Corporation or the Mount Moriah Scholarship Fund. Contributions can be sent care of Nancy Edwards at 3627 Masseyville Rd., Macon, GA 31217.
