Pedestrian killed on Eisenhower Parkway
A Macon man was struck and killed by a car Friday afternoon on Eisenhower Parkway on his 58th birthday.
A motorist hit Ronnie Nelson at Eisenhower Parkway and Second Street just before 4 p.m., said Lonnie Miley, Macon-Bibb County deputy coroner.
Bibb County sheriff’s Lt. Randy Gonzalez said Nelson was stepping up onto the curb after crossing the street when he was struck by a 61-year-old Macon woman driving westbound in a 2006 Honda Accord.
“It was reported to us by witnesses that when he stepped on the curb, he lost his balance, stumbling backwards ... where he fell in that lane,” Gonzalez said.
Nelson, who lived on Cedar Street, was pronounced dead at the Medical Center, Navicent Health at 4:23 p.m. This was the third pedestrian fatality in Macon-Bibb County in 2016.
No charges have been filed against the driver, Gonzalez said.
