Roadwork on Interstate 75 set for Thursday night in Monroe County

Two southbound lanes of Interstate 75 are set to be closed overnight Thursday from 9 p.m.- 4 a.m. as contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation install a weigh-in-motion scale for trucks passing through northern Monroe County.

Weather permitting, the lane closure will begin at exit 193 and end at mile marker 191, according to a news release from GDOT.

The scale being installed records axle weights and gross vehicle weights as a driver passes over it, the release said. Unlike static scales, the weigh-in-motion systems do not require a vehicle to come to a stop. That feature makes the weighing process more efficient and, in the case of commercial trucks, allows semis under the weight limit to bypass static scales or inspection sites, the release said.
