Man killed in Lake Wildwood accident

A man died in one-vehicle accident at Lake Wildwood on Sunday.

Derrick Gordon, 36, of Macon, died in the accident that happened at about 12:40 p.m., according to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened at the intersection of Conestoga Trail and Santa Fe Trail. When deputies arrived at the scene, the release stated, they found Gordon trapped under a 1999 UD tow truck. Firefighters were able to free him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the release, witnesses reported that the tow truck was traveling north on Conestoga Trail toward Sante Fe Trail, and driver’s door of the truck appeared to be open. The vehicle veered off to the right side of the road, struck some limbs, then came to a rest in a ditch with Gordon pinned underneath.
