Accused gun-toting club-goer runs from Bibb deputies, hides pills in underwear
A 22-year-old Macon man who reportedly ran from Bibb County sheriff’s deputies after being accused of toting a gun inside a south Macon club on Thursday was arrested and later found to be hiding prescription pills in his underwear, according to an incident report from the sheriff’s office.
Jonathan Gutierrez, of Mathis Circle, was arrested on the west side of Pio Nono Avenue about 3:30 a.m. and charged with willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer, crossing guard lines with drugs and possession of a controlled substance, the report said.
Security at Club Status reported to a Bibb County sheriff’s deputy working in the parking lot that a man inside was carrying a small, black .380-caliber gun. When a security guard spotted the gun-toting club-goer, who was later identified as Gutierrez, a deputy grabbed his arm and asked, “Is this the one?” the report said.
Gutierrez then snatched his arm away and ran toward the parking lot, the report said. Another deputy who helped in the chase said he saw Gutierrez grab what appeared to be a gun from his pants and throw it into the woods. Gutierrez ran on foot into oncoming traffic. He was trying to crawl under a fence when he was apprehended, the report said.
Deputies didn’t find the gun in a search of the wooded area, but Gutierrez told them he’d dropped a knife in the road, according to the report. He later said he dropped brass knuckles.
At the jail, 20 Xanax pills were discovered in Gutierrez’s underwear, according to the report.
Gutierrez was released Thursday night on a $7,955 bond, jail records show.
