Historic Macon to offer free tours of Macon sites in May
The Historic Macon Foundation will celebrate National Preservation month with free tours of historic places after its annual awards ceremony in May.
The annual preservation awards ceremony will take place at 338 Poplar St. on May 3 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to a news release from the foundation. Exciting announcements are expected, and the event will be catered by El Camino, the release said.
Tours set for Thursday evenings include: a walking tour of Cotton Avenue, a historically African American business district, starting at Daisy Park from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 12; a biking tour of downtown Macon starting at Tattnall Square Park on May 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.; tours of Mill Hill, the site of the proposed East Macon Arts Village, on May 28 beginning at 5:30 p.m., and at the East Macon Auditorium at 239 Clinton St. at 6:15 p.m., according to the release.
There also will be an open house event on May 15 in the Beall’s Hill neighborhood beside Mercer University where six new houses recently built on vacant lots will be showcased, the release said.
