Macon woman found dead in mobile home

The body of an elderly woman who died more than a week ago was found Wednesday afternoon in a mobile home off Jeffersonville Road.

Barbara Coffman, born in 1944, lived with her dog, a Yorkie, in the Avalon Mobile Home Community. The Yorkie was alive and was taken by a caretaker, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

Coffman’s body, badly decomposed, was discovered after a home health service stopped by to check on her , Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley said.

“She had some medical history,” Miley said. “It’s just another situation of people being found in their house. ... I wish people would check on people more often.”

Kenyetta Greene, 34, watched with her fiance from the steps of an adjacent mobile home as sheriff’s deputies worked the scene.

Greene said she had only seen Coffman once since moving there in December.

Coffman is the fifth person this month to be found dead in their Bibb County residences who appeared to die of natural causes but went unnoticed for a while, Miley said.

“Know who your neighbors are and check on them, especially when you have people who are elderly around you,” Miley said. “If you don’t see them in a day or two, just go over there and knock on their door and just see if they’re OK.”
