A Labrador retriever service dog that went missing Tuesday night in downtown Macon turned up Wednesday on College Street.

The man who found it, a maintenance worker at an apartment there, saw a posting about the missing dog on a social media site and called its owner.

The dog, a 2-year-old black Lab male named Cinder, was last seen on Poplar Street near Third Street about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Cinder is a service animal for a person who has Type 1 diabetes.

Bruce Moore was walking the dog when a pair of unleashed dogs rushed out of an alley and spooked Cinder near Third Street.

Cinder pulled away from Moore, eluded the other dogs and was last seen heading up Poplar Street toward Second and First streets.

The dog's owners got the call that he'd been found about 3 p.m.

"Fantastic news," Moore said.

As a reward, Moore said he gave the man who found Cinder some money to help cover his rent payment.
