Motorcyclist, passenger hospitalized after Macon chase
Two people were injured in a motorcycle wreck Sunday while fleeing Bibb County deputies.
According to a sheriff's office news release, the chase started at about 6:45 p.m. in the area of Pansy and Montpelier avenues. Deputies were checking a report of a motorcycle being driven recklessly.
They spotted a white 2003 Suzuki GSX600R speeding and attempted to stop it. The cyclist, who had a passenger, raced down Napier Avenue to Pio Nono Avenue, then turned onto Vineville Avenue. From there he turned onto Interstate 75 south and crashed in the grass near the off ramp of Mercer University Drive, the release stated.
The driver, Christopher Haynes, 33, of Warner Robins, and his passenger, Asia Weston, 21, were taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, the release stated. They are listed in stable condition.
Haynes is being charged with speeding, reckless driving and fleeing a peace officer.
