Woman killed, man badly burned in Crawford County fire
An 83-year-old woman was killed and a man was flown to a burn center in Augusta Wednesday night after a fire in east Crawford County.
Sue Carol Hutto did not survive the fire at the double-wide mobile home on Wellington Drive, said Glenn Allen, spokesman for Georgia's Insurance and Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens. Jerry Troupe, 62, was badly burned.
"He was able to escape the blaze, but sustained smoke inhalation and burns to over 60 percent of his body," Allen said. "He is currently receiving medical care."
The cause of the fire, which was reported about 7:30 p.m., is still being investigated, but Allen said there's no indication the fire is suspicious.
This fatality brings the total number of fire deaths in Georgia to 44 so far in 2016, he said.
