Macon-Bibb EMA holding countywide tornado drill in March
The Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency is urging people to find shelter during a tornado drill scheduled for later this month, according to a news release.
The county's EMA is conducting a "Shelter in Place" drill on March 30 at 10 a.m. Shelter in Place "means to take immediate shelter where you are - whether that's at home, work, or school, or traveling - during an emergency," the release said.
The EMA is asking people to participate in a social media contest during the drill by taking photos of everyone in their shelters and posting them on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with #SiPMaconBibb. The contest winner will sound the emergency sirens during monthly tests in April or May.
"As part of our outreach to help people and families be prepared for severe weather and other emergencies, we want people to identify their Shelter in Place location and practice using it during the monthly emergency siren test," EMA Director Spencer Hawkins said in the release. "We want to make this a community event, encourage everyone to be involved, and show they are ready in case of a disaster."
