Milledgeville music teacher dies in Ga. 49 accident
A music teacher at Creekside Elementary School in Milledgeville was killed in a car collision Thursday afternoon, the day after her 27th birthday.
Kathryn Poff died of blunt trauma injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene about 5:25 p.m., said Baldwin County Coroner John Gonzalez.
Poff was turning left from Blandy Road, near Baldwin County High School, just a few blocks from her school, onto Ga. 49 as a tractor-trailer headed south was turning right onto Blandy, according to an initial report from the Georgia State Patrol post in Milledgeville.
A GMC 3500, in the southbound lane behind the truck, hit the driver's side of Poff's Scion as she was turning.
For more than an hour, northbound motorists detoured off Ga.49 at Allen Memorial Drive, and southbound traffic had to take the U.S. 441 bypass.
