Notices are now being mailed to Macon-Bibb County residents who have not paid their property taxes, according to a news release.
The Macon-Bibb County Tax Commissioner's Office began sending letters Tuesday to property owners who did not pay taxes on their accounts in 2015 or prior years. The original bills were sent in September 2015, and payment was due Nov. 16, the release said.
"We want to remind people now about the importance of settling these accounts so they can avoid the additional charges and liens," Tax Commissioner Wade McCord said in the release.
The reminder letters will include past due amounts, and interest will accrue if the taxes are not paid by March 16. There also will be a 10 percent penalty and a lien will be filed if 2015 taxes are not paid by the end of March, according to the release.
