Fire consumes north Bibb home

A ferocious fire erupted at a house in a north Bibb County neighborhood just after 6 p.m. Thursday night.

The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department sent seven companies to extinguish the flames that engulfed the three-story home at 307 Broadleaf Court in a subdivision just north of the intersection of U.S. 41 and Bass Road.

The fire appeared to have started on the rear of the home, possibly on a deck, Fire Chief Marvin Riggins said.

"It apparently got all up in the roof there before anybody saw it, before anybody got called," Riggins said. "The fire had mitigated itself across the roof line by the time we got to the scene."

Battalion Chief Jeff Sanders said there was one person at the home waiting outside when the companies began to arrive. No one was injured during the blaze.

"Initially, we started doing an interior attack inside the structure, but the fire was in such a way that the roof started to collapse so we came outside," Sanders said. "(Firefighters) were just in the doorway, they weren't very far inside."

The home is owned by Michael Kruger, according to the Macon-Bibb County Board of Tax Assessors website.

Riggins said he believed the house to be a total loss.
