More than eight dozen Macon-Bibb County firefighters are the latest to receive promotions after last year's departure of 57 veterans.

Tuesday morning, 33 new lieutenants were pinned in a ceremony at Central Georgia Technical College.

Two more ceremonies are planned on campus Wednesday as 67 firefighters become sergeants.

Under early retirement incentives last fall, the department lost more than 1,700 years of combined service which led to this year's record number of promotions.

Earlier this month, the department tapped its first female fire prevention director, six new battalion chiefs and 26 captains.
