A third candidate has announced his intention to seek the Houston County Superior Court judgeship that George Nunn will be vacating.

Warner Robins attorney Walter G. "Bo" Sammons Jr. has practiced law in Houston County for 27 years, according to a statement.

He has tried cases in state and federal courts, and he has argued cases in the Georgia Court of Appeals and the state Supreme Court.

Sammons has represented defendants in criminal cases, including death penalty work, as well as clients in other cases, including divorces, custody and child support, contract disputes and more.

For the past 20 years, he also has represented the state Department of Human Services in cases that involved abused and neglected children. And he has helped raise about 20,000 pounds of food for the Middle Georgia Food Bank as part of a statewide initiative led by the Georgia attorney general's office.

"I believe it is important to work hard, be fair and be involved in the community," his statement said in part.

Sammons received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and his law degree from Georgia State University.

He was nominated for a Superior Court judgeship in 2006 by the Georgia Judicial Nominating Commission.

Two other Warner Robins attorneys, Jeffrey L. Grube and G.E. "Bo" Adams, also have said they would seek the judgeship.

Nunn notified the Houston County Bar Association in December that he planned to retire later this year. He will have served 30 years as a Houston County Superior Court judge in June.

Qualifying for the post is scheduled for March 7-11.
