Historic Macon event features 'History by the Glass'
The Historic Macon Foundation will serve history by the glass at a pop-up speakeasy in a 1940s-era office space on Second Street on Feb. 11.
For the fundraiser event, called "History by the Glass," the foundation will share Macon's past through original cocktails inspired by pieces of the city's history including the Ocmulgee Indian Mounds, the trolley car system, the Prohibition era, Otis Redding's musical legacy and more.
The fundraiser also aims to show off an unexpected architectural treasure. Attendees will be able to explore the office space at 314 Second St., which is above Posh Boutique and VJ's Cutz and Styles and is being rehabilitated by a private developer, according to the release.
"This is an opportunity for us to show off a space that many people would never have access to," the foundation's special events and marketing coordinator Emily Hopkins said in the release. "We wanted to create an event that would align with our mission of preserving architecture and sharing history."
The event is set for 7-9 p.m. Tickets cost $50 per person and include samples of the featured cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Tickets can be purchased online here or by calling 742-5084. The event is limited to 100 guests.
