Someone walking by Washington Park in Macon on Sunday may have seen an unexpected sight: colorful scarves and hats hanging from trees and bushes.

Each item was adorned with a note about the size of a business card: "I am not lost!! I was left here on purpose. If you are cold and need this item then take it. It is yours."

A group called Chase the Chill in Central GA placed the cold-weather gear there. In its third year, Chase the Chill celebrates the art of knitting and crocheting while providing hats and scarves for those who might need them, said Carrie Sexton of Bonaire.

Sexton has been crocheting since she was a teenager and was inspired to start the Central Georgia chapter after seeing a picture from a Chase the Chill in Canada.

She made some of the scarves that were placed in the park, but most of them were donated, she said.

Chase the Chill is now collecting hats and scarves for its January 2017 "yarn bombing" event.
