Amerson River Park and the Walker Road Landfill closed on Wednesday due to the rising level of the river, and the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail closed on Tuesday, according to a news release.

With the threat of flooding in the area, the Parks and Beautification Department felt it was safer to close the park entirely because one of the lower parking lots is already covered in water and there are multiple access points to the river.

The road to the landfill is covered in water, making it unsafe to drive vehicles there. The water levels will be monitored the next several days to determine when it is safe to reopen, the release said.
