Windsor Academy is hosting a memorial service for a graduate of the Class of 1988 who was killed in a terrorist attack in California.

Friends and former schoolmates of Shannon Johnson will gather Saturday at 11 a.m. in the gymnasium of the private school at 4150 Jones Road.

The Rev. Joe McDaniel will deliver the eulogy, and mourners will be invited to share their thoughts about Johnson, who was working as an environmental health specialist at the San Bernardino County Health Department.

The 45-year-old, who was a stellar athlete and former running back on the Knights football team, held onto a co-worker last week in the mass shooting at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino.

His body shielded the woman from bullets and saved her life.

Johnson is being buried in Jesup next to his father, who also died trying to save a co-worker in an industrial accident.
