Identity of body along Macon railroad still a mystery

The identity of a woman whose dead body was found Sunday near some railroad tracks along the Ocmulgee River in downtown Macon remained unknown Wednesday.

The body was that of a 5-foot-5, 220-pound white woman with brown hair, authorities said.

Medical examiners don't yet know how she died.

Her body was found early Sunday beneath the Second Street bridge, which spans the river between Riverside Drive and Interstate 16.

"We don't know who this girl is," Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said. "You would think somebody would have reported her missing."

Fingerprints taken from the body have not proven helpful, he said.

"We get homeless people (who die) all the time," Jones said. "But we don't get nothing like this."
