Macon-Bibb EOC changing way it takes applications for home heating help

The Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council is making changes in the way it takes applications for winter heating help.

Starting this year, walk-ins will not be accepted. Those who want to apply for help must call 478-207-6380 beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday to sign up for a designated time.

For years, low-income residents have lined up for hours, sometimes in cold weather, to sign up for the home heating help.

The grant that provides the heating assistance comes from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

Agency officials are scheduled to provide more details about the change Tuesday morning.
